Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has confirmed his players will be returning to pre-season training next week ahead of their tour of the US in July.
The Red Dragons will be taking on Manchester United, Chelsea, LA Galaxy II and Philadelphia Union II in preparation for their return to the Football League in August. Speaking to Football Daily after the club’s fixtures were released, Parkinson confirmed their plans ahead of the trip Stateside.
“We’ve got four games over in the US,” he explained. “It’s a very exciting tour to be a part of and preparations for that tour will be starting next week when the lads are back for preseason. It’s going to be a very good preparation for us, for the start of the new season.”
Parkinson’s men have a greater image in America thanks to their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The Wrexham boss added how excited the duo are about the new season but was unsure whether they would be in attendance for the opening clash with MK Dons at the Racecourse Ground.
“Yeah, very much so,” Parkinson responded when asked if the co-owners were excited about the EFL. “The aim when they bought the club was to get this fantastic football club back into the EFL. It’s been 15 years of pain for our supporters but we’ve managed to achieve it and now we can really relish the challenge that the EFL brings.
“I don’t know [if they will attend the opening game], but it wouldn’t surprise me if they come over because it is, in the history of the football club, a huge game. To be out of the league for 15 years, this signals the return of the club into league football, so I’m sure that if they can possibly be there then they will be over.”
