Developing Leicester City’s positional game will be a focus for new manager Enzo Maresca, who has emphasised the importance of “staying still”.
That may not be music to the ears of supporters who were hoping for an energetic, all-action side under the Italian, but he is looking to build a winning team, and for that, covering the spaces is a must. But it’s easier said than done.
From his first day coaching the team at Seagrave on Monday, July 3, Maresca will have 34 days to teach them his style, philosophy and tactics to get them ready for the first game of the new season. City discovered on Thursday they would be opening the campaign against neighbours Coventry.
“The most important thing at the beginning is to get the players to understand exactly where they need to be, the positions they need to take up on the pitch,” Maresca told the Telegraph. “A lot of the time they don’t need to be moving around so much.
