James Maddison and his England team-mates must put transfer talk to one side as they prepare for the country’s Euro 2024 qualifiers over the next week, Marcus Rashford has urged.
The Leicester City midfielder is one of the players dominating the gossip columns as the transfer window opens, with the 26-year-old set to be sold this summer. Newcastle and Tottenham are the current front-runners to sign him.
He’s not the only player in the England squad who could join a new club this summer, and he was referenced alongside Declan Rice, Harry Kane, and Harry Maguire as Rashford was asked how transfer talk was affecting the squad ahead of the Three Lions’ fixtures. They play Malta on Friday and then North Macedonia on Monday.
Rashford said: “It’s not the first time this has happened. Every time it has happened, every player is committed to England while they’ve been here and that’s what you have to do. You have to try to leave behind what’s happening in your club career.
“There’ll be people doing stuff, maybe, I don’t know, I’ve not spoken to anyone about it. I don’t think here is the time or place to do that.
“The players are focused on the game against Malta, and then on the second game. They are fully committed to winning those games
