Man United midfielder Christian Eriksen suffered a blow to his eye while on international duty with Denmark.
Manchester United midfield ace Christian Eriksen has played down fears that he has suffered a serious injury after being pictured with a black eye during a Denmark training session.
The 31-year-old, who joined United on a free transfer almost a year ago, has linked up with his international colleagues ahead of Denmark’s upcoming European Championship qualifiers. They face Northern Ireland at home on Friday night before travelling to Ljubljana to face Slovenia away from home on Monday.
Leading up to the international double-header, however, Eriksen has suffered a nasty-looking eye injury. Pictures shared by the Danish FA on social media showed the United ace sporting surgical tape just above his left eye socket, plus purple bruising on his eyelid.
Despite how bad the injury looks, however, both the Danish FA and Eriksen have played down fears that he could miss their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Posting a picture of Eriksen doing some gym work during a training session, the Danish FA wrote: “He’s been sewed up and is ready.”
Eriksen then shared their post on his own Instagram story, adding: “And everything is ok.”
The midfielder, who made 44 appearances for United this season, scoring two goals, appeared to suggest that he had suffered the blow to his eye in a training session. He shared another image of the team’s open training session and apologised for not signing autographs as he had to get his eye injury attended to.
Eriksen, who has racked up more than 100 caps for his country, will be hoping to start both of their upcoming qualifiers and help them make further progress in their quest to qualify for next summer’s tournament in Germany, which starts in exactly a year’s time. Denmark have won one and lost one of their opening two qualifiers so far.
