Harry Maguire has looked ahead to Saturday’s FA Cup final, which will be contested by rivals Man United and Man City.
Harry Maguire thinks Manchester United’s experienced players and players who have won multiple major trophies will benefit the team’s chances against Manchester City in the FA Cup final this weekend.
United ended the worst trophy drought at the club for over 40 years when lifting the Carabao Cup in February and Erik ten Hag now has the opportunity to win a domestic double, which would also end City’s hopes of a treble.
Pep Guardiola’s side are in contention to match the treble won by United under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1998/99, but they will need to prevail in the first Manchester derby in FA Cup final history before they target the European Cup.
Although Maguire is not expected to start the game at Wembley on Saturday, he previewed the contest this week and said the experience in the dressing room will be crucial in helping United to deliver on the day.
The club captain also lauded the fans for their support and he predicted they would have a part to play at Wembley.
“The fans have been right with us throughout the season and I think they’ve been really important to the success that we’ve had and the positive results that we’ve had,” he told club media
“I think we’ve seen at Old Trafford, our results have been amazing so we know at Wembley they’re going to be there, they’re going to be loud and it’s a day that we hope we can do them proud.
“The fans at this club are a huge part of the club, they’re right behind the team, you can feel the energy and the intensity that they bring to the matches as well.
“I think obviously last season was such a disappointing year for us all, as players and staff, as fans, just as a club in general, so to bounce back in such a positive manner, I think it’s really, really impressive.
“Experience is a huge thing in football, being there and playing in these big matches, these big pressure moments, it’s really important to have that experience on your side.
“I think across our team now, if you look at our team, we’ve got lads who have won big trophies and lots who have played in a lot of finals, so it’s a good balance of the squad. We’re ready to give it everything.”
