Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville says a signing like Neymar at Newcastle would scare him to death. The Magpies are the richest club in world football, but they’ve been unable to spend their riches given the constraints of Financial Fair Play.

Neville has advised the Toon hierarchy to avoid signing Neymar this summer, but admits a time will come where Eddie Howe has to roll the dice. He said on the Gary Neville podcast: “That would scare me to death, that sort of signing.
“Neymar is a sensational player but I think Eddie Howe all of a sudden would sort of have a circus – Eddie Howe doesn’t need a circus up here. You think about what Newcastle are at this moment in time, they’re building, they’ve got foundations.
